Privacy policy

marathonbnb is a small, independent fan guide. We collect as little as we can. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

Who runs marathonbnb

marathonbnb is run by 9481-8440 Québec inc., a company based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Jim McDannald is the person responsible for protecting the personal information collected on this site. For any privacy question or request, email [email protected].

Email signups

When you ask for a free race guide, we collect your email address, the race you picked and the language of the page you signed up on. We use them only to send you the guide and occasional news about your race and places to stay. We send nothing until you confirm your address with the link in our first email.

Our email service is Kit, based in the United States. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and we delete your address if you ask. We never sell or share your email address.

Analytics cookies

If you click Accept on our cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful: pages viewed, how you found us, your rough location (country or city) and your type of device. If you click No thanks, Google Analytics does not load at all.

We never use these cookies for advertising. Analytics data is kept for 14 months. You can change your choice at any time in Cookie settings. Your cookie choice, your language and the race you signed up for are saved only in your own browser.

Lodging maps and booking links

The hotel maps and booking links come from Stay22, a travel affiliate service. When you use a map or click a booking link, Stay22 and the booking site you choose (such as Booking.com or Expedia) may set their own cookies so a booking can be credited to us. If you book, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Their privacy policies apply to anything you do on their sites.

The overview map on each race page uses map tiles from OpenFreeMap, built from OpenStreetMap data. When the map loads, your browser asks OpenFreeMap's servers for the map images, so they see your IP address. OpenFreeMap sets no cookies.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. Our fonts are stored on our own site, so loading a page sends nothing to Google.

Where your data goes

Kit and Google store data in the United States. Both are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which EU and UK law accept as a safeguard for these transfers.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or withdraw your consent at any time. Email [email protected] and we'll reply within 30 days.

If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live. In Quebec, that's the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the bottom of this page.
