In short
Göteborgsvarvet 2027, one of the world's largest half marathons, is on Saturday 22 May 2027, with the first start at 13:00, and it starts and finishes by Slottsskogsvallen in Slottsskogen park. Runners: stay in Linnéstaden or Majorna and walk to the start, or in the city centre a short tram ride away. Supporters: the centre puts you next to Avenyn (km 16.8) and on trams to the finish, while Lindholmen is on the course across the river on Hisingen. Entries sold out within days in May 2026, so if you have a place, book a room with free cancellation now, well before the Expo opens on 20 May 2027.

Race morning
Göteborgsvarvet starts in the afternoon: the first wave goes at 13:00 and waves keep leaving until about 16:15, and your own start time comes on the start certificate emailed 1 to 2 weeks before. Walk from Linnéstaden or Majorna, or take a tram to Marklandsgatan or Linnéplatsen and walk to Margretebergsgatan; in 2026 trams were rerouted from 12:30 to about 19:15, so plan in the Västtrafik To Go app and buy a ticket, since the bib has not been a travel pass. In 2026 runners could also take a free runners-only shuttle bus from Åby Arena (09:00 to 20:00). Bag drop is in the start and finish area.

A DJ, an announcer and bars along the course about 3 km in, by the Mariaplan tram stop. Then take a tram toward Järntorget or Domkyrkan and walk to Avenyn: your runner still has about 14 km to go.

km 10.5 (mile 6)
Lindholmspiren
Best if you stay on Hisingen: a waterfront stage and cafés at about km 10.5, reached on the Älvsnabben ferry (line 285) from Stenpiren. To move on, take the ferry back to Stenpiren and walk about 20 minutes to Avenyn; that only works if your runner is slower than about 6 minutes per km, otherwise go straight to the finish.

Avenyn and Götaplatsen
Crowds stand several rows deep from Kungsportsplatsen up to the Poseidon statue at Götaplatsen. Afterwards walk 5 minutes to Korsvägen and take a tram to Marklandsgatan, a short walk from the finish.

Meet your runner
If you stay at the arena, watch the finish from the grandstands at Slottsskogsvallen. Coming from Avenyn you will usually arrive after your runner has finished (only about 4 km remain after Götaplatsen), so meet outside the Runners Zone, for example at the food court in the entrance park, open to runners and spectators from 09:00 to 20:00. No official family meeting point is published yet, so agree on a spot before the race.

Where should I stay for Göteborgsvarvet?
Linnéstaden or Majorna, so you can walk through Slottsskogen to the start and back from the finish. The city centre, Avenyn and the Central Station area have far more hotels and are a short tram ride away.
Is it better to stay near the start or the finish?
You do not have to choose. Göteborgsvarvet starts on Margretebergsgatan and finishes inside Slottsskogsvallen, side by side in the same event area in Slottsskogen.
