All runners entered the start area at Piazza di Porta Capena, next to Circo Massimo station, between 06:00 and 07:30, and handed in the official race backpack at the bag trucks on Viale delle Terme di Caracalla by 07:30. The 2027 rules say the race starts at about 08:30 (in 2026 the waves left from 08:10 to 09:00), so check your wave on your bib.

  1. km 13 (mile 8)

    Via della Conciliazione

Runners head straight for St Peter's here. Walk over Ponte Sant'Angelo from the centre, or take Metro A to Ottaviano and walk about 15 minutes. The course loops around Borgo and Prati, so allow time to cross it when you leave.

  2. km 37 (mile 23)

    Piazza del Popolo

From Ottaviano, Metro A to Flaminio is two stops, and the square is just through the old city gate. Your runner covers 24 km between the two spots, so there is time for a coffee.

  3. Meet your runner

In 2026 supporters could watch from stands inside the Circo Massimo (entrance on Via del Circo Massimo), and the family reunion area was on Via dei Cerchi. Runners collect their bag on Viale delle Terme di Caracalla first, so agree on a time.

Questions

Where should I stay for the Rome Marathon?

Monti, around the Colosseum, is the closest to the start and the finish. Termini has the most hotels and is direct on Metro B to Circo Massimo. Supporters do well in Prati or the historic centre, which are on the course.

Is it better to stay near the start or the finish?

In Rome one base covers both. The start on Via dei Fori Imperiali and the finish in the Circo Massimo are less than 1 km apart, and in 2026 runners entered the start area next to Circo Massimo station.

How do I get to the start on race morning?

Take Metro B to Circo Massimo. In 2026 runners walked into the start area at Piazza di Porta Capena between 06:00 and 07:30, Colosseo station was closed on race day and the metro opened at 05:30.

Where can supporters watch the Rome Marathon?

Via della Conciliazione by St Peter's (km 13) and Piazza del Popolo (km 37) work well together, linked by Metro A from Ottaviano to Flaminio. Then meet your runner on Via dei Cerchi by the Circo Massimo (the 2026 reunion area).

When should I book my hotel for the Rome Marathon?

Now, with free cancellation. Entry is first come, first served, and the 2026 race sold out in early December 2025.

When is the 2027 Rome Marathon?

Sunday 14 March 2027, about a week earlier in the year than 2026 (22 March). Its official name is Run Rome The Marathon, and the race's expo page says the expo at the Circo Massimo opens on Thursday 11 March.
